Introduction.
Microblading is a relatively new form of semi-permanent makeup that uses tiny blades to create the appearance of fuller, more defined brows. It’s a popular procedure for those who want to look more awake and youthful, but it can be tricky.
The healing process isn’t something you’d typically associate with beauty treatments and yet there are many steps you need to take after getting microbladed if you want a beautiful result.
If you’re thinking about getting this procedure done but don’t know exactly what happens during the healing process, here are some facts about microblading healing.
Table of Contents.
Week 1: Immediately following your initial procedure.
Do not get your brows wet for a week.
After every shower use ointment on the area of your skin that has been treated with microblading.
Do not wear makeup on the area of your face where microblading was performed. This can cause irritation and discomfort for several days following your procedure.
Do not rub or touch the treated areas in any manner until after you have healed completely (about 6 weeks). This includes sleeping on them! If you must do something to alleviate itching, gently apply an over-the-counter hydrocortisone cream (1%) to affected area(s).
Never use any products containing alcohol near your newly tattooed skin; it will irritate it more than normal.
Week 2: After the microblading procedure.
- Use cold compresses on your brows.
- Don’t pick at the scabs.
- Don’t wash your face with hot water.
- Don’t use makeup on your brows (except for tinted sunscreen).
- Don’t use alcohol or peroxide on your brows (this can cause scarring).
Week 3: After the microblading treatment.
The best thing you can do during this time is to avoid touching your brows. If you have to touch them, use cold compresses and avoid pulling the skin around the area. You can also apply ointment as needed to help with any dryness or irritation.
You should also avoid wearing makeup on top of the microblading treatment until it’s fully healed (around 3-4 weeks). This will allow the pigment to settle into place and give your body time to heal before adding additional stress on top of it.
Week 4: After the microblading appointment.
This is the most important week of your healing process. During this time, you should not be applying makeup or any other type of makeup on your brows. Do not swim or get them wet in any way, as this can cause infection and possible scarring.
If you are going to the beach, make sure that you apply sunscreen to protect them from UV rays! You will also want to refrain from tanning because it can increase sun damage in this area.
During this fourth week after microblading, it’s best if you don’t pick at your brows or rub them excessively as this could cause irritation and/or infection. Additionally, don’t pull on them and definitely never tug!
Week 5: The end of the healing cycle.
At the end of the healing process, your brows will be healed and ready for makeup. At this stage, you can start doing your own touch-ups with a pencil or powder. You can also leave them bare if you prefer. The microblading procedure is now complete!
Week 6: The 6-week follow-up appointment.
Week 6 is the final follow-up appointment. Your artist will check to make sure you’re healing properly, and if not, they may recommend a touch-up. They’ll also ask about how you feel about the results so far—will you be happy with your new brows for good?
At this point, you can also talk about any other concerns that have arisen since your last appointment: whether or not your eyebrows are too thin or thick; whether they need to be filled in further or removed altogether; whether they look natural enough (if they don’t, perhaps it’s just not quite time yet).
After 1 Year: The annual touch-up appointment.
After one year, you should be able to see how your brows are healing. If they need a bit of refining, then this is the perfect time to do so. You may also want to get them tinted again at this appointment if you want a fresh look.
Cut back on your workouts.
- Your brows are going to be very sensitive for about a week, so it’s important to let them heal as much as possible. If you usually do a lot of sweating, try to cut back on your workouts until your brows feel like themselves again.
- Avoid getting sweaty or having water run over the area for a week after the procedure. While this isn’t always possible (I mean, how does one avoid sweating?) it is important that you keep sweat and water away from those areas during this initial healing phase.
Use your ointment in moderation.
While ointments are useful for healing, it’s important not to overuse them. Ointments are made with ingredients that can cause allergic reactions or skin problems. Remember: moderation is key!
If you’re using your ointment every few hours and still having an issue, try switching to another brand or type of ointment. That might help your situation.
Keep your brows out of the sun during the healing process.
In the first few days after your microblading procedure, you’ll want to avoid getting your brows wet and keep them out of the sun. While this may seem like an obvious piece of advice, it’s actually one that many people forget about.
If water gets into your microbladed eyebrows or they come in contact with sunscreen or makeup during this time period, it can cause irritation and disrupt their healing process.
It’s also best if you don’t use any products on or around your newly-microbladed eyebrows until they’ve had a chance to heal, even mascara and eyeliner can cause problems for freshly-inked skin!
If you’re planning on going swimming or spending time at the beach during these early weeks following your microblading appointment, don’t forget to pack some waterproof sunscreen as well as sunglasses to shield those tender new tattooed areas from harmful UV rays (and yes, you should always wear sunglasses when outside, it helps with the healing).
Rehydrate around your brows with coconut oil.
Coconut oil is a great natural moisturizer for your brows and for other parts of your body. It’s inexpensive, safe, and versatile. You can use it on your skin, hair and nails to help them look healthy and shiny!
When it comes to microblading healing coconut oil is a good moisturizer because it contains vitamin E which helps keep the skin hydrated by preventing moisture loss. This means that it will help keep the area around your new microblading eyebrows hydrated so they don’t dry out or crack as easily.
Coconut oil has many uses besides being applied directly to the skin as well; it can be used to treat wounds (including those caused by microblading), remove makeup without damaging sensitive facial tissues like eyelids or lips.
It also acts as an anti-inflammatory agent against acne breakouts due to its antioxidant properties found within fresh coconuts harvested annually worldwide each year, making this product environmentally friendly too!
Be careful with microblading.
First of all, microblading is not for everyone. If you have sensitive skin or are prone to keloids (raised scars), you should avoid microblading.
Secondly, the results are not permanent. Your brows will eventually fade after healing and will need to be touched up every 6-12 months.
Lastly, be sure to do your research before choosing a microblading artist. Make sure they are licensed and experienced, and that they use sterile needles and disposable equipment.
Once you’ve found the right artist, enjoy your beautiful new brows!
